Electrical Panel Upgrade
Older homes (and even some newer ones) can have electrical panels that are inadequate for today's modern electricity needs. Rarely can homes with 60 amps service handle the needs of a modern home. Flickering lights or circuit breakers that constantly trip can be a symptom of this.
Future-proof your home
A single family home with a 100 amp service may be adequate for a home that is under 2,000 square feet and does not have central air conditioning, a heat pump or an electric furnace. The National Electric Code today requires new homes be built with at least 100 amp electrical panels. But it is usually a good idea for most single family homes to be built with 150 or 200 amp circuits for the purpose of future-proofing your home.
Simply put, there is no way to know with certainty what the electrical requirements on a home will be in the future and it is best to upgrade only once if possible.
Increased electrical requirements could be due to:
- Installation of a charging station for an electric car
- Installation of central air conditioning
- Construction for an addition to a home.
- Any other major appliance installation or upgrade
If you often have a circuit breaker tripping frequently this can be a sign that it is time to upgrade your electrical panel. Additionally, the conversion of appliances such as a furnace or water heater from natural gas to purely electric may also require and new 50 or 60 amp circuit run.
